Act to halt more homes

THIS week the Advertiser reports that the district could be bombarded by thousands of new homes under plans laid down by the South East England Regional Assembly. (SEERA)

At this present time, it's difficult to imagine that Mole Valley could cope with any more homes, because it seems every village has so far been swamped with new developments.

The Advertiser has regularly reported on applications for new houses, flats or apartments which residents feel will be to the detriment of the area.

They say the developments will be too crowded, adding to their already congested roads, or too unattractive and will not blend in with the pleasant surroundings they have come to love.

Unless we strongly voice our opinions now on the draft, either with a letter or online, SEERA could recommend that the south-east must make room for an extra 32,000 more homes on top of the annual building rate.

Although we're not entirely sure what the impact of this will be upon Mole Valley, we know it will be a lasting one, which could threaten the treasured Green Belt and change the faces of our towns and villages as we have come to know them.

If we are to retain our space and beautiful surroundings, then we must act now.

Take heed. If we don't, the Advertiser could soon be reporting that a new block of unattractive flats, high in structure and bland in sight, could be built at the bottom of your garden.

Large developers have been ‘stockpiling’ land into their own land banks with the knowledge that in future years as towns and city’s naturally expand planning will be granted.
This enables the shrewd private investor to emulate the fortunes that have been made by developers without tying up huge sums of money.
